On the morning of August 20 (local time), the groundbreaking ceremony for the Botswana Police Station Construction Project was held with great fanfare. Botswana’s Vice President Mr. Slumber Tsogwane attended the event and delivered a speech. Other distinguished guests included the Minister of Defence and Security, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, the Police Commissioner, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and the tribal chiefs representing various regions.

Mr. Tsogwane said the project marks a significant milestone for the country’s police service. The 28 police stations were expected to enhance police capacity to fight crime and ensure continued public safety, peace and stability. “This project supports the ‘National Vision 2036’ goal of creating a crime-free environment to achieve property for all,” he remarked.

Reportedly, this is Botswana’s largest police station construction project to date. Jointly constructed by UNIK Construction Engineering (Pty) Ltd (UNIK) and another joint venture partner, it represents a comprehensive turn-key contract that integrates design, procurement, installation, construction, and financing. Police Commissioner Dinah Marathe expressed her hopes that the construction team would deliver the projects on time, and without compromising quality.

The ceremony began with a performance by the Botswana Police Band. The attendees watched live broadcasts of groundbreaking activities across the headquarter and 27 villages at the conference hall.

Mr. Sun Yun, the General Manager of UNIK Botswana Branch, along with his team were present at the groundbreaking ceremony in the capital.

Mr. Sun Yun shared that preparations are in full swing to ensure the project’s completion within 15 months. The project managers have already arrived at the construction sites. With geological surveys and mapping advancing steadily, various departments are fully ready. Moving forward, UNIK will maintain its commitment to precision, professionalism, and a spirit of craftsmanship, striving to deliver a high-quality project that not only enhances its corporate reputation but also contributes to public safety and stability in Botswana.
